Grief and Thanks

With music by Bach and Tavener and Vaughan 'Williams' Five Mystical Songs'

Howard studied piano and harpsichord at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) between 1984-1990. During this time he worked with many prize-winning singers, including Bryn Terfel, (with whom he played concerts and appeared on TV and radio broadcasts), Catrin Wyn Davies and Toby Spence.  From 1991- 2001 he was the official accompanist to the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, playing mostly for their voice auditions.  

Howard had singing lessons from Rudolph Piernay (1986-88) and David Pollard (1996-2000). 

Howard has performed with the London Mozart Players, Les Arts Florissants and on opera project for Channel 4 TV and has been repetiteur at the Darlington International Summer School and Norwich Festival.

 From 2000-2011 Howard was the harpsichord in Red Priest, and was featured regularly on Radio 3 and Classic FM and in 2005 was the subject of an ITV South Bank Show programme.  They toured all over the world playing in most European countries, 40 states of the USA, Japan, Australia, the Caribbean and, of course, all over the UK and Ireland. Red Priest recorded four CDs with Howard all of which are available on Red Priest Recordings (RPR).
Since leaving Red Priest, Howard has been teaching piano, coaching singing and performing concerts with orchestras, chamber groups and singers in the Sussex area. He has also played with Shoreham based guitarist Richard Durrant, and in 2014, they recorded a CD of music for guitar and harpsichord

A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he formally trained as a bassoonist, Sebastian sings as a soloist and chorally in the UK and abroad while continuing his studies privately with Linda Hutchison. Recent operatic roles have included; Orestes Iphigénie en Tauride, Malatesta Don Pasquale, PelléasPelléas et Melisande, Prince YeletskyQueen of Spades, Captain MacHeath The Beggar’s Opera, Masetto Don Giovanni,Cascada Merry Widow and Cox Cox and Box with companies such as New Sussex Opera, Surrey Opera, Opus Opera, OperaCoast, IrrationalTheatre, Opera Anywhere and Opera Danube. He has been a member of the Chorus at Longborough Festival Opera for the past two seasons in their critically acclaimed productions of Tannhäuser and Tristan und Isolde.

Equally at home on the concert platform as the stage, Sebastian was a finalist in the British Music Association’s Art Song Prize 2015 and has featured as Soloist in works including Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Serenade to Music various Bach Cantatas, Mozart’s Requiem, Bach Magnificat, Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem with the Brighton Festival Chorus and most recently, Handel’s Messiah with the East Sussex Bach Choir.

As a professional chorister, Sebastian has worked with numerous groups including Metro Voices, Blossom Street Choir and RSVP Voices along with regular depping work across London and can be heard on many recent blockbusters. He also sings in a vocal quartet, The J-Tones, who work all over the country for events from dinner parties to live radio broadcasts.
